Dear Byron:

What can we say other than "WOW! even for you," and "You were only a hundred miles away, so why didn't you come visit Mildew Manor?"

Anything new and interesting on the frozen methane deposits off the coast of the Carolinas?

Regards,
LBT

This is the very best piece on the general subject that I have ever read. Mr. King, thank you very much for writing it. Our American way of life is only unsustainable if we make it that way, and with the last election we didn't do ourselves any favors.

One thing though, I don't have the slightest clue as to what a "heat " is in relation to oil drilling. It is stated twice so I figure it isn't a typo.

"will there be adequate oil supplies in, say, 2012" you ask? Ha ha ha! The future is clear to those who are familiar with the facts and history of oil. Divine insight is not required. So you urge us to keep drilling. Yes, of course, but you know full well that that won't save our bacon. The only really significant opportunity lies in conservation, and the only truly effective and sufficiently fast acting way to conserve is through meaningful market forces. Like the $147 per barrel oil of last summer. Can this be done without the pain at the pump? Yes, it can, through an oil surcharge that is distributed to U.S. taxpayers - with an average payout of $7,000 per tax return, as described in www.conserve-oil.com. The U.S. needs to get serious, or step off the stage.
