Dear Dan:

Great article, thanks. I wondered, though, if you understand how our political system works, particularly at present. The bill APPEARED to pass just barely, but had the 8 renegade Republicans not voted "No," they would have been replaced immediately by negative votes from the Democrats. Those things are balanced out very carefully by leadership. 44 Dems got a "pass" on very unpopular legislation to help them in next year's elections.

A similar situation with the reconciliation bill: anything the Democrats don't like will disappear (such as John Carter's amendments, had they been brought to a vote and passed) and NEW legislation will be added. The reconciliation bill requires only a simple majority vote, guaranteed in both House and Senate after last year's disaster. As for "I won't support.____?" Mr. Obama will smile sweetly and say, "I just sign what they send me."

Ah, well, no wonder Janet Neapolitano says I have all the earmarks of being a terrorist other than being returned from active duty in Iraq recently!

Got anything good in an opal mine that sends stones for dividends?!

"It could be that the global Left simply finds modern life aesthetically ugly and consumerism (with all that pesky individual choice) a vulgarity that should be destroyed via legislation."
This is why the Left and the Right can't talk to each other. After a crack like this one, it hardly matters whether the author has a valid point or not. Readers who consider themselves left of center are turned off from that point onward. This means that the only readers left are the ones who agreed with the author before the author set fingers to keyboard. Though a time-honored tradition, preaching to the choir seldom solves problems.

Indeed, couple that with a 30 year out-of-date power grid, vast reserves of Ink & Paper, and somebody at the Federal Reserve with a "stuck" 0 key. Quite the recipe for Mayhem......
