This is MADDening!

Wouldn't it be wiser to have a law, where spending is concerned, in which an ending date is specified that is no later than a statistically determined majority-aged determined-date (MADD). The intent is to prevent any bill from spending money of our children or grandchildren who cannot vote for the current spending legislation. Thus, spending could go on for quite some time, but it would have an fitting ending-date.

A MADD could be a date, as determined from the age of the current majority of congressman who vote in favor of a spending bill, to be the statistical average age of these congressman who are expected live to a future date - which gives a determined date to terminate the bill. The age of the majority of congressman voting in favor of the bill was used as an example instead of the average age of the current majority of US citizens (CMUS). CMUS may be difficult to determine. Using the age of the congressman, representing the public, possibly allows a more efficient process of determining a MADD.

This MADD could be changed in no less than five years, giving time for a majority to change its opinion of determining a new MADD. The process of determining a MADD before the five-year elapsed time could be over-written by 2/3 majority votes in both houses of congress to determine a new MADD.

Again, the intent is not to spend our children's money if at all possible but leave room for some flexibility to spend money up to a certain date.

Some good old common sense wrapped in the ability to look objectively and honestly at a situation. I only wish half our politicians had your keen sense Gary and we may not be in this situation. Great read and for those of us not still living in fantasy land it is another good heads up. Keep up the good work.

I highly object. I did not, nor did any of mine, buy into the over-priced housing pods, we avoid running up debt on crazy credit cards, and search futilely for any quality goods NOT made in China (since those fall apart in less than a month if they don't poison you). The American public has not sold our future. The runaway government, insane corporations and the privately owned FED have done this. So stop blaming it on us, and stop expecting us to pay the bill.
Wake up and face the music. Cuz I'm not paying for your mistakes, and neither are US citizens. All the imaginary money created by the FED, guess what? It's worth less than monopoly money.

Gary .

I hope you have a great year in 2009.

I discuss some ideas to help State legislatures reduce the harm caused by the federal government and help them fund themselves under Matthew Leiphon's "STATE BUDGET WOES" at http://www.newgeography.com/content/00497-state-budget-woes#comments

I discuss gold, silver, inflation, and many other topics on http://www.myspace.com/kennethstremsky
