I think consumers are extremely pessimistic, and expecting for a hard labor for the employees are unexpected not only because of the economical crisis but also because of the low rate of wages.

Great observations Doug,

Understanding the mechanics of problems is the first step to repair.

I think the amorality of generation x is a learned-response to a generalized immoral environment created by the boomers, which is now in a state of collapse. To which I have authored an Economic Theory called:

Terrorist's Dilema: Market-Moralities Tendancy to Achieve Anti-Climax

anyone wanting a copy can make a request to gurfrip@msn.com

I'm a Gen-Xer but would am pleased my parents assured me of a Moral Internal-Environment which is a great compass to have in the larger global dynamic of absolute moral relativism and generalized breakdown in governing legal structures.

The Legal-Breakdown in the USa is the Key-Issue because paper-assets value are disproportionately effected when there is Legal-Breakdown within systems of internal governance. We must as a people focus on the Unintended Consequenses of the USa Patriot Act which instituted a state of abosolute moral relativism in the USa. I ask the people who's minds are at work here to please openly think about this.

Regards,

Interesting what you say Doug, but the scope if quite large and is a subjective matter, because it all falls into the social sciences, so here my humble perspective/perception of generations, crises and periods in human history : (excuse my poor English as I am an Ecuadorian who happen to know little bit of English lenguage)
First I tried to divide human beings stages in 10 years and not 20. You got then childhood (1-10 y old), puberty (10-20 y. old), 20-30 young adulthood, 30-40 mid adulthood & 40-50 main adulthood, late adulthood 50 to death.

Second, I try to see human stages and it applies to certain levels in mammals as this:
From childhood to adulthood basically you go through this main learning process I call it " the giving(loving) big lesson of life". And I explain this simply as the process that goes from Childhood (the TAKING /RECEIVING AGES/STAGES / SELF REASURANCE) to Adulthood (THE GIVING / LOVING / UNSELFSHNESS AWARENESS).
As we all know and have experience, us babies, from the womb stages to around 10 years, are just receiving and nurturing, in adolescence we have our first glimpses of unselfishness and some mature faster than others. In total maturiry/adulthood we need to have learned to be unselfish or to GIVE (LOVE properly) or we will perish..most likely..

So understanding that process that we have seen through the years in our life and in the life of others, we could project this to humans as a whole. And for what I have read in History and seen in my own life (am 52+ y old) and others we can see that humanity goes through same changes and through same process. If we as a whole being in this planet do not learn to GIVE to become UNSELFISH, to grow into ADULTHOOD PROPERLY, we usually have a problem. Call it Global Crisis, call it what you want. Is just another crisis of humanity coming OF AGE.
In short, I think that any lesson we dont learn if one we will have to relearn as many times as we need.

But, I am no thruth owner, no self righteous person or try not to be, I am learning still.

Hope this comment helps and is constructive.

Regards
