Bary, that's a subject on a lot of minds. Since most of us can't afford gold bricks, one solution is not to leave a paper trail when buying coins. Another is to buy silver coins. Those will be easier to exchange if there is a real dollar debacle. The problem with legislation is that it can always be changed. Just because gold Eagles (and presumably maple leaves, Kruggerands, and Pandas) appear to be exempt now does not guarantee that they will always be. What is the ruling if you have turned your coins into jewelry, including earrings, rings, bracelets, and pendants? The biggest problem is that a government that can confiscate anything can confiscate everything.

question for Q & A on Gold Coinagae

Regarding Confiscation I have Read the article below which seems to go against conventional wisdom and would like your opinion. Please note the law
Confiscation!

Could history repeat itself?

Only numismatic gold coins were exempt. Now I’m not suggesting the current Administration is out to get your gold. But an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So here’s what you need to know…

***** Section 5132(a)(1) of the Gold Bullion Coin Act 1985 specifically defines Gold Eagle coins as “ numismatic “ and therefore should be EXEMPT from confiscation.
