How Much Is Your Coin Worth?

“In this exclusive Whiskey and Gunpowder video we’ll explore the value of U.S. coins – past and present – and show you why nickels are a solid investment. Most U.S. coins are worth nothing in melt value. The nickel is the one coin left in circulation that is worth more than its face value. Now is the time to begin hoarding nickels before their metal content is debased and they become worthless.”

  1. Better Start Collecting Soon! The House held a hearing, April 17, 2012, on the future of coin production including Testimony about the Savings of Using Steel. See link: http://www.coinworld.com/artic.....ing-steel/

  2. Ok I understand the underlying concept. But how much are your going to hoard? A $100k in nickels is 2,000,000 of the little suckers. Hope you have a spare closet. Oh and redemption is going to be a bear.

  3. The intended purpose of coinage is to store wealth. The survivor, the nickle, is still doing this. Other coins, made of gold, silver, and copper, have long since been removed from circulation. Hording nickles is a sad testimony to the $US, that used to command an ounce of silver. $20 was worth an ounce of gold. I’m not going to horde nickles. I strongly suspicion they will be made of steel before you know it.

  4. Fiat metals for the win! Nickels are a much better deal for older folks looking for safety and liquidity. Nickels will do much better than treasuries. Thanks for the great video!

  5. You didn’t say anything about pre 82 cents.

  6. [...] Save your nickels Posted on May 12, 2012 by Fred Michaels http://whiskeyandgunpowder.com.....oin-worth/ [...]

  7. Do not overlook the humble penny. In large numbers of pennies chosen at random I have been finding that about one sixth (1/6) are pre-1982. Therefore, in 12 pennies chosen at random, 2 are pre-1982 with a value of about 5 cents, and 10 are current with a value of about 5 cents. Total real value of 12 pennies with a face value of 12 cents is about 10 cents. In the recent past when the price of copper was higher, the real value was about 13 cents. When you have lots of free time, you can go to the bank, buy boxes of pennies, keep the old and return the new. Not a way to get rich quick, but it gets you thinking about the real value of commodities.

  8. Doesn’t it make more sense to put your money in precious metals than copper/nickel? Portability is a major consideration…when the SHTF, it’ll be a lot easier to carry ounces instead of pounds. And won’t PM’s increase value at an equal or greater pace? Just my 5 cents..

  9. It makes since to me but with a lot more research there is truley a better way, and it’s right @ u fingertips.Research,Just my 2 cent’s

  10. I guess I just don’t get it James…The video says a nickel is now worth 5.5 cents…10% more than face value, but according to the precious metal guys, silver is WAY undervalued and is really worth much more than 4-5 times what you will pay for it now (due to banker price manipulation). So would you rather buy something that is worth 10% more than what you pay or something that is worth 400-500% more than what you pay?? The video also says that a “market” will develop after the composition change…Are people really going to go gaga over copper and nickel, two non-precious metals? What’s next, iron and aluminum? Please James, tell me what I’m missing…

  11. The problem with nickels is that they are an alloy of 75% copper and 25% and so a refiner is not going to pay anything close to “spot” value on the metals since they will have to be separated – not to mention doing this is currently illegal. There is already a market for 95% copper pre-82 cents, so if you want base metals, I’d say those are a better bet. Realcent.org is an entire forum dedicated mainly to copper penny accumulation and has an active marketplace with some members dealing by the ton (literally).

  12. Save all Nickels. Go to your bank and buy them with paper Dollars. You make money just walking out the door. It’s a no brainer since the Nickel will always be worth face value. Down the road a $2.00 Nickel roll could be worth double or triple after they are pulled out of circulation. Try that with your federal reserve notes.

  26. Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, My – Space, Digg,
etc. Additionally, with super cost effective price tags that only a good SEO
Web Host can offer, it has given webmasters
a cheaper and much more cost effective way to get their work done and at the same time
take advantage of the web. Most such time periods are for 30 days and to
be honest, that is too small a frame of time to evaluate the services of the hosting organization
    properly.

  27. I think that what you published made a bunch of sense.
But, consider this, what if you added a little content?
I ain’t saying your information isn’t good, however suppose
you added a post title that grabbed a person’s attention? I mean How Much Is Your Coin Worth? is a little plain. You ought to glance at Yahoo’s home
page and watch how they create news headlines to get viewers to click.
You might add a related video or a related picture or two to get people excited about what you’ve got to say. In my opinion, it would bring your posts a little bit more interesting.
