Aarr-g-g-ghhhhh! I've answered all of you in a single reply...twice. The Cyber Dragon refuses to allow it to escape it's hungry maw!

I'm not ignoring you. It's the Dragon's fault!

One and all,

The Cyber Dragon apparently has decided that it didn't like my replying to all of you at the same time. Well, I don't care what the Cyber Dragon doesn't like...I'm gonna try it again, this time with an additional answer to Darrell. Cross your fingers and keep the fire extinguisher handy in case the Cyber Dragon makes another appearance!

Lessee if I can answer all of you in order:

Linda,

No, we can't build the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria faster on an assembly line! We're talking creativity, skill, knowledge.

There's nothing wrong with waiting til you're blind in one eye to get treatment for the other. You can still see. Not well, of course, but it does keep you from seeing the flaws in socialized medicine.

My doctor, who is black, grew up in Chicago, worked in the projects and is intimately familiar with the Chicago political machine and the big O, carries a heavy patient load, is constantly pushing my next appointment back another month, did not vote for Obama and refuses to talk about the effects ObamaCare will have on his practice while shaking his head and hunching his shoulders. If that ain't enough to make all of us very afraid of what's coming down the railroad track, then we're all wearing blinders.

As for whereahbin, working on your cabinets, setting up the Texas Target Taunts website (http://texastaunts.com) and experiencing the joys of a just-in-case colonoscopy that turned out completely negative. As expected.

Dave,

It ain't that good right now, but I agree totally that it's going to be bad all the way around when this thing gets rolling. Probably worse than any of us can imagine. I have an extreme urge to head for the nearest hardened bunker when I hear Joe Biden make comments like "There's going to be a lot of kicking and screaming, but I believe we're going to get healthcare reform done."

Douglas,

If Canadian Universal Health Care is so superior, why are there multi-month waits for treatments, as well as substantial numbers of Canadians opting to avail themselves of the current American health care?

Kim,

No point in biting the hand that feeds you, is there? Lest we forget, Obama...as well as the majority of national politicians...is a lawyer.

Linda,

It won't be hard when you consider the number of witch doctors already practicing that are passing themselves off as doctors. We don't know how many fall in that category because, as you know, doctors bury their mistakes.

Linda,

Richard not BAD. Richard answer fan mail all at one time. Conserves energy, protects electrons.

Jim,

You're either an Aggie or a Bean Counter. If you're an Aggie, the answer is nine months. One man and one woman to produce the baby and nine men to watch. If a Bean Counter, the answer is 9/10ths of a month because 9 months divided by 10 is .9.

Darrell,

"One Hundred Ant's" proves two things. One, that a great truth is contained within the statement "There are three kinds of lies in the world. Lies, damn lies and statistics." And two, that your six year old is an extremely intelligent and perceptive young lady.

If it takes one man and one woman nine months to produce a baby, how long will it take ten men and one woman to produce a baby?

Bossy Rady say BAD Richard, not answer fan mail. Urg, Dave, do we really want untrained semi-slave labor even taking our blood pressure? What do you suggest we do about it? LBT

I work in healthcare and have seen these things already taking place. you have forgotten to include the doctors still retain the liability and must absorb the cost of their insurance and overhead. The Obamanites would not consider restraining the trade of the litigators, now would they? Kim

Maybe the American mind set will give you:

And just how will these panels determine who gets what care? By determining the cost effectiveness of the treatment when balanced against the age of the patient, overall medical condition, medical history and whether or not they’re a contributing member of society. In other words, the numbers will determine your treatment. Incidentally, that also has the effect of reducing the number of people receiving health care.

Fortunately, the Canadian mind set gives all of us Canadians access to good medicine.

I think that there is another looming problem: Whenever a major, politically connected industry starts whining about a "shortage" or workers (meaning, a shortage of people who are willing to work for cheap), you can be sure that some kind of immigration proposal is not far behind.

The best and most effective method of reducing salaries in the medical field is to import cheap slave labor from India, and there are literally millions of people who have had the misfortune of being born there who would jump at the chance to work here for half-price. This would, of course, put crushing downward pressure on wages of nurses, pharmacists, x-ray technicians, etc. I can't say whether the doctors would be able to protect themselves. This is going to be bad all the way around.
