I must clear up one misconception about the "oilsands" (tarsands ) of Alberta. The size of the deposit is similar in size to Florida, however only a fraction of the deposit is suitable for open pit mining. The rest is too deep to mine and is extracted by a method known as SAGD (Steam assisted gravity drainage). This method has less impact on the surrounding area. As time goes on the public will become more informed about the Athabaska region and less false information will be published by Journalists.
