Third try’s a charm?

Thanks for the best discussion of Roman history I have heard since a college course under a world-renowned scholar.

Throughout history there have always been those who do well, many even honestly. While the time to be accumulating spices and murex shells has past, our dear, old, stuffy silver continues to be the best investment I can find, and I look.

How about an article on the similarities between 2009 and the late Roman Empire? My candidate for the Incitatus Award is Henry Louis Gates, whom I expect to be put forward as a Supreme Court justice, an ambassador, or yet another Tsar. Wonder if he ever got tenure after four universities. A prime poster boy for affirmative action?

There are always those who do well, many of them even honestly. We know the cause, we know the effect, and we know that there is always something that functions as “real” money. The time to collect spices and murex shells has passed, but dull, classical silver is going to do quite well.

Thanks for the best exposition on Rome I’ve heard since a college course taught by the world’s greatest expert (one would swear he had marched with the legions.)

More and more our politics are resembling those of the later empires…and I nominate Henry Louis Gates as a candidate for the Incitatus Award. Did he ever attain tenure after changing colleges four times?

There are always those who do well, many of them even honestly. We know the cause, we know the effect, and we know how to discern what is functioning as “real” money. It is not the time to invest in the murex shell or spices, but dull, classic silver will do nicely at this juncture.
