Congratulations on a good article. However, I do have a comment re your last paragraph on Austrtalia.

The "cap and trade" was rejected by the Senate - our upper house, which the Rudd Labor Government doesn't control. The latest opinion polls still have Labor well ahead of the Opposition, and with an election due before the end of the year, they will most probably be returned. Labor's term in office has been lacklustre as they are terrified of making any decisions that might hurt their popularity. Finally, Climategate received very little coverage here as about 80% of the media are pro the Government.

Keep up the good work.

As today progresses will China snub Obama tonight? Cast back to the Beijing Olympics prep and the plea from the Chinese for "a particular entity" (some insiders say it was Russia) to help them manage the weather so the games would be successful. Refer to Newsweek:

"We've ordered technicians to try to make it rain again today, but so far they haven’t reported back on the results," says Zhang Qiang, a businesslike woman who heads the Beijing Weather Modification Office (yes, that’s the official name of a real Chinese government agency). "We did it many times last week to increase the rainfall."

Not content with simply making it rain, now China's weather modifiers have taken on another meterological mission: to help guarantee perfect weather when Beijing hosts the Olympic Games in 2008. "In China, we haven’t done this type of thing on a very large scale yet," says Zhang during an interview in a west Beijing compound housing five antiaircraft guns used to shoot chemicals into the clouds.

"The Russians have experience creating good weather, and we can learn something from them. We still have two more years for testing. I’m sure our preparations for the Games will go well."

The technology involved a 2 or 3 stage process, and not the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (despite the best intentions of Mr. Jesse Ventura on his new TruTV show). HAARP is old technology, it's declassified, his main beef, but there's new stuff "light years" ahead. One stage does involve getting the "device" above the ionosphere and creating a passage. Hence the name when we first got the specs for this in 2006. I am sure it has advanced since 2006.

Is China in a position to call the global money "subsidies" any way it wants? The takeway is that everyone has their knickers in a twist over the climate, and they should they should, they should! The huge irony IS that it is man-made, if from a machine built by the warriors, so don't blame Buttercup the cow: in the end it will be about food and water. Cheers!

The human footprint that produces economic damages are: deforestation, incursion into wildlife areas, 50 years of oceanic and atmospheric nuclear detonations, ionospheric experimentation with high energy radiation. If a scientist wants to make an issue about human stomping on nature, those are credible arenas, instead of blaming cow and car farts.

Climate expression (as real scientists well know) is managed naturally mostly by external planetary influences. Except, now, we do know that there has been successful experimentation with management of the climate through high energy devices. There's long been talk about these devices being a new class of climate weapons. Be careful now, Copenhagen is not all as it seems, and it has the usual "drugs for weapons" cabal back in DC in attendance. Wonder if the Russian's Xmas display for them, with pretty blue lights, and the sudden unexpected snowfall in Scandinavia are connected.

I always look forward to reading your opinions on scientific matters as well as your investment advice. Your voice of scientific reason always inspires me to learn more and to position my investments to ride the rising tsunami of improved living standards and increased wealth that will be created by science unshackled from political correctness and the current creeping version of fascism(socialism). Never give up. You can't for my sake. You are making me smarter and wealthier. Sincere thanks, Bill

Dear Mr. Cox:

The issue of W&G that headlined this article has my vote for Best of Breed.

Your thoughts are clear, well-presented, warm, witty, and compelling--even to someone who is doing her best to master the technologies of the early eighteen hundreds, those being the ones I think we are likely to need before this all plays out.

My deep admiration, Sir.

Excellent. Mankind has long sought rituals to propitiate the gods from torturing man with 'acts of god(s)'. Such rituals have always tended to entrench a priestly class allied to, or in place, of a hereditary ruling class.
