The fool's gold is both literal and figurative, making five kinds in all. The top rank is real, eternal, and always holds at least a good proportion of its genuine comparative value. Jeweler's gold varies from roughly 20% (9 k), 56% (14 k), and 75% (18 k) with occasional bits of Saudi and Venezuelan Gaudi in the 22-24/24 range, and the rest range from a false sense of security to actively destructive. Life gets a lot simpler once we work out what is genuine and what is false security.
