Buker's remarks remind me of the fuss raised about "Peak Oil". We have so many alternative energy sources, some even cheaper than coal, that I am not worried one bit except that the owners of the present franchises will continue to resist change to the best of their ability.. Would you do any different? If you had the right to sell peanuts at the ballgame I am sure you would object if someone else tried to muscle in.

Consider PBRs, Pebble Bed Reactors for the shooters without Google; using Thorium they could even help reduce our stock of weapons grade Plutonium and Uranium. Guess where the objections come from; NIMBYs, NIH (Not Invented here), current enrgy suppliers, and so on.

In reality PBRs in a modular form could be installed and commissioned in 3 years. Of course the permitting and siting for even conventional generators would take maybe ten years. So we keep expanding our current generators whether they are running on coal, natural gas, geothermal heat, conventional BWNRs, or whatever.

Grid considerations seem to be limited to individual user control by the local distributor. Continental grid configurations seem to be problems that China is solving but the good ol USA seems to be ignoring.

Well it is time for my nap and then I can enjoy my lunch. Would enjoy a shooter but the "good stuff" was proscribed some 35 years ago.

Rahm Emanuel wasn't the first to figure out that "a good crisis should never be allowed to go to waste," just the first one cynical and arrogant enough to say so in public. Unless the "Homeland Security" business is peddling danger and expensive alert procedures, what does it have to sell? The purpose of bureaucracy is to grow. "Better living through terror and fear?"

I am a great admirer of Masaad Ayoob, who is America's foremost self-defense authority, even though his name sounds as though he is a terrorist. Masaad is very clear-sighted about the responsibility of the individual to take precautions. The INDIVIDUAL, not the government. His advice to you, Miss Buker, would include having a full set of clothing, shoes, a weapon, and a cell 'phone locked in the bathroom with you when you go in to shower--and to have ascertained ahead of time that the window isn't painted shut and you can wiggle through it!

Paranoid? No. Merely aware that at any time the world could explode into what he calls "the come as you are war." What will you do IF?

I have been in a come as you are war. I had done my thinking ahead of time and knew just how to react. My lovely daughter and I were returning from the NRA course I was running her through and stopped at Albertson's on the way home. Just as we pulled into a parking place the world erupted into shots, shouting, running men...I was "carrying," of course, and Beauty had her Glock 9 in a bag at her feet since at 16 she could not get a concealed carry permit.

We swung into action quickly and efficiently, without a word or a glance passing between us.

We both buried our heads in our laps! Hey, it wasn't our war. What was I supposed to do, get out of my old 528e and demand, like an irate school teacher, "Stop that instantly, all of you! You there, who are the good guys and who are the bad guys?" No, thank you. That's a good way to get shot or get someone else hurt.

Some day, though, it may be that the streets of Baltimore will be thronged with rioters or looters. Do you have a plan for such an event? The pen is mightier than the sword, but at any given moment the sword speaks louder.

Bravo on using your pen to skewer the pompous, worse than useless, expanding bureaucracy. In the meantime, please think of your own wellbeing. You're too cute to be thrown over some lout's shoulder as the booty of war!
