When They Come For Your Guns, You Will Turn Them Over
“When they come for my gun, they will have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands,” is a common refrain I often hear from the Neo-Cons when there is a threat, credible or otherwise, that the US government is going to take their firearms.
And, when I hear this crazy talk, I agree with them openly. “You are right. They will pry your gun from your cold dead hands,” which I often follow with the question, “And where will that leave you except face down in a pool of your own blood the middle of the street, just another dead fool resisting the State?”
This is not a question they are comfortable with, if only because the intent of their saber-rattling was to imply they would fight to keep their weapons, and win.
Nice fantasy. It’s not happening.
If the federal government decides to disarm the public, and one of these (see photo below) rolls down your street after a not-so-subtle request that you kindly turn over your firearms and ammunition “for the common good,” it will be nothing less than suicide by cop to do anything other than what you are told.
The militarization of US police forces is ongoing and escalating. Many cities and towns now own tanks, armed personnel carriers, even attack helicopters, and almost all are outfitted with military weapons not available to the general public.
And, it is not just your hometown cops who are getting new boy-toys. The military itself is buying up weaponry not just for use in the current or next scheduled war, but to deal with the likes of you, citizens who don’t seem to understand that the Bill of Rights has been overruled, and that specifically includes, but is not limited to, the right to protest and engage in civil disobedience.
Also ignored (as if it didn’t even exist) is the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 which generally bars the military from law enforcement activities within the United States.
According to Public Intelligence:
“…for the last two years, the President’s Budget Submissions for the Department of Defense have included purchases of a significant amount of combat equipment, including armored vehicles, helicopters and even artillery, under an obscure section of the FY2008 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the purposes of “homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.” Items purchased under the section include combat vehicles, tanks, helicopters, artillery, mortar systems, missiles, small arms and communications equipment. Justifications for the budget items indicate that many of the purchases are part of routine resupply and maintenance, yet in each case the procurement is cited as being “necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities” under section 1815 of the FY 2008 NDAA.” (Emphasis supplied.)
And, they are not just arming cops and weekend warriors for domestic purposes. Active duty Marines are now being trained for law enforcement operations all over the world (of which the US remains a part) specifically to deal with civil uprisings, and the US government knows that civil uprisings are coming to a town near you just as soon as the fantasy of a healing economy is shattered, the US dollar fails, and unemployment goes to 30%+ in real numbers.
And, to you tough-talking Neo-Cons with your AR-15 rifles and a few thousand rounds of ammo, here is reality: they will take your guns, and no, all your Second Amendment bluster aside, you are not going to do anything about it. You are not going to take on a platoon of Marines with state of the art automatic weapons and the best body armor you cannot buy protected by armed personnel carriers and attack helicopters unless you choose to die that day — for nothing.
You will either be in the country or out, and if you are in, you will stay in and you will comply.
That is your choice… for the moment.

Once upon a time, the citizens possessed firepower equivalent to the military and the “armed forces” were more like a conglomeration of local militias or local units which served together in combat. Today, the citizen who would resist is, as you said, simply dead if he stands alone. Yet there remains hope that large numbers of those in uniform will obey their oath to the Constitution and not blindly mow down their fellow citizens. There is actually an organization to which I belong called Oathkeepers dedicated to promoting just such a proposition.
Failing that, remember there was powerful resistance in countries occupied by the Nazi’s in spite of the willingness of German soldiers to carry out the most horrible acts imaginable. Perhaps all this will be put to the test in the aftermath of November’s election.

We who serve are not mindless robots. We swore to support and defend the constitution against all enemies, Foreign and Domestic. The constitution is the people not the government. When the time comes we will do what is right, not what is easy.

The government lacks enough people to succeed in one swell foop. Any effort will go viral on the Internet and then the isolated guerrilla efforts will begin. When ALL government employees–and their families–learn that they are also targeted, there’s likely to be a change in behavior. Hard to run a government when the employees are afraid to go to work.

The author is right. You don’t fight the most powerful military in the world with semi-automatic rifles. Remember Waco, and Ruby Ridge. Read Sun Tzu’s Art of War. The author is correct. If I go to my door and find a dozen or so armed men demanding my wepons, I’ll give them my two shotguns. Then when they leave I will dig up my arsonal from where it’s buryed, hand them out to all my friens and go get them back. No government has a right to leave it’s citizens defenseless. the problem we have is the modern state (a product of the social turmoils of the mid to late 19th century) is dying. In some areas it is already dead. The omnipotent state myth is a myth that was proven false during the height of the omnipotent state. The fact is DOJ and DOD have done studies. That order (by law enforcement and DOD) will be disobeyed by between 30 and 66% of current active duty military and police forces ( they came up with different numbers based on the study). This is ironic talk coming from a lawyer that fled to Mexico. Apparently, he isn’t familiar with American history or the composition of the American military. As a retired officer with 24 years of service (and sons in the USAF and USMC), I guarantee you that there are more than enough military members that know right from wrong and WILL NOT obey unlawful orders against U.S. citizens. It’s as simple as that. And if the government ever decides upon such a foolish undertaking, it won’t be a direct confrontation between the citizens and the military. It will be a guerilla warfare-type engagement that will last for several years. The Founders knew exactly what the right to bear arms was for when it was included in our founding documents, and it still applies today. The numbers are with us, and time is on our side.
And plenty of cops and soldiers will bring their tech over to the rebel side (as robert rightly points out)

As pointed out by others, those who are smart will not be sitting at home waiting to have the door battered in, followed by a stack of armor-clad JBTs. They’ll be gone, probably hunting (and not 4-legged creatures, either), and their guns and ammo will be gone except that needed for immediate defense.
Many WILL hand over guns – those bought on paper, that is. Then they’ll go dig up the rest, which aren’t.
Note that those giving orders like this cannot be guarded 24/7, nor can their families. If they want to play “Dirty War” then I think that they haven’t seriously considered the (unintended) consequences. They fail to remember that no plan survives contact with the enemy – and if they consider and treat the average citizen as an enemy to be brutally disarmed, then an enemy they shall have.

Don’t overlook “OATHKEEPERS”. There are a significant number of military and law enforcement officers, active and retired, that will not attack American citizens. I maintain that there are enough of us that are willing to die for freedom that we will eventually win. Brother against brother, friend against friend may have been the hard truth during the Civil War but I think not in this day. I believe the military will revolt early on should it come to that.

Seems a few years ago I fought against an enemy who suffered a decided technological, and firepower disadvantage. They were hard to find, fought when they chose, and drained our publics will to fight.
It will be time to teach our Govt. those lessons again, only by patriots this time.
Many of us are very sophisticated, Mr. Karger. For example, we know that the Internet is the new airspace. He who commands the airspace wins the war (c.f. Egypt “Arab Spring”). Some of us are actually skilled computer professionals who design security solutions for a living. And when one designs a security solution, one must learn how a hacker defeats a security solution.

Also.. plenty of people will understand the concept of “opportune timing” and just smile, say “Yes sir”, and hand over all the guns that can be traced to them…. and keep a few hidden out in caches in the hills, etc., until “THE DAY” comes.
Many of you miss the point entirely. When the government decides it’s time to disarm the citizenry it won’t be done in one fell swoop. There will be a period of time in which the current firearms laws are enforced with a much greater zeal than currently done in the name of crime reduction and national security. There will also be increasing restrictions on available civilian weapons and legal transfers of those between people. Long before there’s any effort at confiscation, there will be legal prohibitions on the manufacture and sale of various kinds of firearms. The most likely targets will be anything that is semi-automatic, followed by increasing restrictions on any center fire weapon.
As the process moves forward, there will be multiple opportunities for people to deposit their firearms with law enforcement authorities during clemency periods or through buy-back programs. After the first few of these are complete, there will be some high profile enforcement actions and trials that bring the full weight of the law and the state to bear upon particular violators of the enhanced gun laws. These will be followed by more opportunities for voluntary relinquishment clemency or some form of buy back program.
Within a fairly short period of time, firearms with higher power or higher capacity will become much more expensive and difficult to obtain on the open market. Private transfers of those firearms will all have to be conducted through a FFL and records will be compiled. It won’t take the Army, Marines, foreign U.N. troops or anyone else to remove firearms from general circulation, and those who choose to use their guns to fight the law enforcement authorities will be handled like any other armed and dangerous criminal.
In the end, the author of this article is correct. There won’t be any way to arm or organize armed resistance to the government. Pointing to Syria or even to our own revolution ignores the basic fact that both were supported by sovereign governments with a stake in the outcome – the U.S. and Israel in Syria and France during our own revolution against the British. No outside nation will be supporting the rebels in armed conflict with our own U.S. authorities and, if such intervention were known, it would be perfectly appropriate to bring our armed forced to bear on such interference.
Good luck with your fantasies in the meantime. That’s all they are.

This scenario fails at the first part – our military is not interested in disarming the American citizen. The guys in uniform are much more conservative than our population, let alone our politicians, and swear to uphold the Constitution. They might possibly get some MP units to go along with it, but the great majority would point their guns the other way.
The National Guard would be even less inclined to disarm citizens, seeing that they are citizens most of the time. The NG helicopter unit where I am took a separate oath to never turn their choppers against the people of the US, for example.
This does not mean that it wouldn’t be tried, seeing that the federal government has been recruiting and arming different departments; even the Education department has an armed contingent. The BATFE, FBI, DEA, HS, etc would turn out and follow orders, as well as many police. That isn’t enough to do the job, though, and especially not when (not if) the NG came down on the other side.

That’s a big crock of crap you’ve posted above, Tweell. There’s no way any NG unit would have you taking a separate oath lifted from the Oathkeeper nutjobs and, if it happened, your commander and anyone who took the oath should be subject to UCMJ punishment.
When the NG is federalized, which is sure to happen in the scenario the author presents, any soldier under arms with either follow orders or be placed into custody immediately. That’s the proper way to deal with rebellious insurgents within the military ranks.

Another point here is the issue of Unlawful Orders. The US military as a whole and as individuals have sworn not to follow unlawful orders. Speaking of a big crock of crap, expecting everyone who wears a uniform to break their oaths (so that they can follow a president they didn’t vote for, does his best to keep them from voting and in general treats them like garbage) looks like a bigger crock to me.

What is left out of this article is the mention of groups of private citizens who have armed themselves to the teeth with weaponry that’s just slightly below the sophistication of the government. There is no greater military on earth than the armed citizens of the US.
Even if you added all members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, SWAT, Police, FBI, ATF & Blackwater, they would still be about 1% of the total US citizenry under arms (this doesn’t even delve into how many of the above groups would refuse to disarm Americans!).
Keep this in mind every time you hear spooky articles about DHS buying another 100 million rds of ammo, US citizens bought that last week alone.

here is what will happen.
one day you will suddenly find that your bank account has been locked, that none of your debit cards operate, and that none of your credit cards function. you can’t pay your mortgage, you can’t buy gas, you can’t buy food, you can’t pay your water or electric bills. then you will get a form letter in the mail, saying “our records indicate you are in possession of certain illegal firearms. your finances have been locked until this situation is resolved. please turn them in to your nearest sheriff/fire/county/post office. your finances may be restored after your case is reviewed and a determination made. have a nice day.”
what will you do?
you’ll turn them in. because those who would confiscate your weapons want you out of the way, nothing more and nothing less. by turning off your financials and leaving you unable to function in the modern world they achieve that aim. at that point, whether you turn in your weapons or not is completely irrelevant to them. you can shoot the bureaucrats or blow up the ATMs or rob grocery stores all you want for all they care, it will not touch them. in their eyes, and in modern world reality, you will be dead already and there will be nothing you can do about it. now of course if you prostrate yourself before them and offer up your weapons as penance these people will have an interest in retaining you as a productive member of their society – but only if and as and until you so prostrate yourself. but whether you do or don’t, you can’t touch them or their lives or their power.
“molon labe”? they won’t take your weapons. they will take you yourself. your weapons will fall to the ground unused.
and if any of you actually do cause major problems for them, they will simply send a drone and drop a low-collateral-damage bomb on your house or wheveever else they think you are. done. one drone per city, one or two bombs a day, for years on end. just like they do overseas.

Daniel prophesied a war and the USA is prominently absent from the story, so the country has to collapse before then. Jesus said it’s going to be a lot worse than anything ever before, and in the end we win. Until then, one would not want to be found resisting the prophecy.
The above commentary is a nice excuse to do nothing. Die for nothing? Then men have died for nothing throughout history. Nothing… or everything? Yes, if people resist some will die, and if you believe, like Mr. Karger apparently does, that the Empire has a limitless supply of faceless, cold-hearted shooters, then one can certainly argue the futility of resistance. But who would have guessed that a bunch of rice paddy-tending peasants could defeat the mighty U.S. army in Viet Nam? Or that a tattered band of true believers could defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan? (And who thinks that they will not eventually defeat us, too?). Everybody will die someday, but as Emilio Zapata famously said, “It’s better to die upon your feet than to live upon your knees.” Our Imperial President and his ilk, at their essence, are cowards. If they (mis)judge The People as weak they will strike, if they perceive the likelihood of resistance backed by the threat of lethal force, they will think better of it. Better for them to try a more oblique, subtle approach, like using doctors to label their patients as mentally unstable. Better to use the Palace Media in a relentless propaganda war against the NRA and bitter clingers. They will continue to circle their prey, but will not strike with blunt force until they perceive sufficient weakness. The task of The People is to never convey weakness; sadly, I see no other point to Mr. Karger’s article other than to convey weakness. He does us a disservice.
